AWSから以下のような発表がありました。

これに関してAWSがWindows Server 2003のサポートを肩代わりしてくれるように思われてしまう方もいるかもしれないので書いておきます。当該AMIの利用を継続するために記入しなければいけない申請フォームの「Agreement」には以下のように記載があります。（引用）

By submitting this form, you agree to the following terms and conditions in addition to the terms of your Customer Agreement, and that you have the authority to do so, including on behalf of your company. Following July 14, 2015, Microsoft will no longer support Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 (Windows Server 2003). Because of this, instances running Windows Server 2003 may have a higher risk of failure, security issues, incompatibility, or non-functionality. AWS will enable continued use of Windows Server 2003 within EC2, with an understanding that there may be an increasing number of issues that cannot be diagnosed or resolved, and therefore there is a risk that your Windows Server 2003 instances will lose their functionality entirely. Given the foregoing, you agree that Windows Server 2003 is to be used at your sole risk, as-is, and that AWS will not be responsible for any interruption, error, loss, failure, security issue, incompatibility or non-functionality in connection with your use of Windows Server 2003. We encourage you to upgrade and transition your Windows Server 2003 instances to a version of Windows Server that currently receives Microsoft support.

要するに、MSは2015/7/14以降サポートしなくなるため、利用者は脆弱性や解決不可能な問題が発生しうることに同意して自己責任で利用する必要があるということです。至極まっとうな話だと思いますが、内容を読み違えて、将来起こりうる問題全てをAWSサポートに任せられると思われぬよう注意が必要かなと思います。今回の対応はあくまで「AMIを残しておいてくれる」ということだと思います。

これを読む限り、サポートについては可能な限り継続稼働はできるように頑張っていただけるようです。繰り返しですが、稼働環境が保証されるわけではなさそうです。

また、2015/7/15以降もVMImportができるという記載があるのですが、これはかなり嬉しい方もいるかもしれません。これを使えばパッチ提供や稼働保証まではされませんが、たとえば現状オンプレで「OSのEOSL」とともに「H/WのEOL」まで迎えてしまうが、「上モノのソフトウェアにはしばらく手を入れられそうにない」という場合の選択肢にAWSが使えるということになりそうです。 ※詳細は必ず原文をお読みください。
